Fiordland Cinema

Fiordland Cinema has daily exclusive screenings of Ata Whenua Shadowland along with a selection of the best current releases

Fiordland Cinema is a purpose-built, architecturally designed boutique theatre located at 7 The Lane, Te Anau. Operating since October 2004, it was constructed to house regular screenings of the locally made film Ata Whenua – Shadowland (also known as Fiordland on Film) and now also shows a curated selection of current film releases. The theatre seats 52 people (plus a wheelchair bay), offering a comfortable, intimate viewing experience with plush seating, a large curved screen and state-of-the-art 7.1 Dolby surround sound.

Visitors can enjoy Ata Whenua – Shadowland, a visually stunning 32-minute film that takes viewers on a cinematic tour of Fiordland’s dramatic landscapes, glacier lakes, hidden fiords, native forests, and wildlife rarely seen by most visitors. Screenings typically run daily at 3pm, 5pm and 6pm (but check their schedule to confirm). Beyond the signature local film, the cinema also shows mainstream feature films for those seeking a more familiar movie night.

For many visitors, a stop at Fiordland Cinema is perfect for a relaxed indoor interlude — especially if the weather is doubtful or after a day of outdoor adventures. You can enjoy a drink or snack from the connected bar or café while you wait for your screening. The cozy ambiance and local storytelling through film make it both a cultural experience and a restful break.
