Food & Drink
Choosing where to eat or where you can sit down and have a drink can be a difficult task. Here’s a few of our favourites to help make your decisions a little easier.
On some parts of the trail there are lots of places to eat, in others just a few. We’ve listed some of our favourites below – we hope you like them as much as we do!
Your first day on the Around the Mountains trail, The Von Valley, will have no food or coffee shops. Please make sure you have your lunch, snacks and a water bottle before leaving Queenstown.
Kingston Flyer Cafe and Bar, Kingston
The perfect spot to have a drink or a bite to eat after finishing your bike tour. Yummy food, great coffee, and a large selection of drinks to choose from to celebrate. Nestled under the Eyre Mountains, the Kingston Flyer Cafe is one of the most picturesque spots to rest your legs after days on your bike.
The Coffee Bomb, Garston
The Coffee Bomb in Garston is New Zealand’s most inland food truck, serving the finest coffee, freshly roasted in Southland, and an array of fresh sandwiches, slices and cakes. A recommended spot for a stop, whether you need a hot drink or a yummy lunch. This is your last food stop before Kingston while on the cycle trail.
Brown Trout Cafe, Athol
The Brown Trout Cafe offers a range of delicious home-made food with both dine-in and take-away options for lunch and dinner. From pies and sandwiches to scrumptious scones and muffins, we also serve great locally-roasted ROAR coffee or a resfreshing non-alchoholic or alchoholic drink. There’s something bound to appease your appetite. A great spot to stop!
Five Rivers Cafe, Five Rivers
Located just 14km from Lumsden, sits the iconic Five Rivers Café. It’s the perfect stop for brunch after leaving Lumsden on your bikes. Have a delicious coffee or a homemade muffin or scone. The café itself offers stunning scenic views of the mountains, especially from the garden area or beside the roaring fire in winter. With a unique atmosphere, it’s a great option for a place to stop off, relax, view the art gallery and farmyard, and recharge before hitting the next stage of the cycle trail.
The Bafe, Cafe/Bakery, Lumsden
We are open for morning tea and lunch six days a week (closed Sundays). We offer a wide range of scrumptious sandwiches, muffins, pies, and quiches, as well as our legendary, delicious cream donuts. All of our products are freshly baked and prepared each day on the premises.
